Macaroni Cheese

This mac ‘n’ cheese dish is bound to please the kids! It’s super easy to prepare and you can jazz it up by adding bacon, sliced sausage or chicken. You could also add some veg in such as peas, sweetcorn or mushrooms - anything will work to boost the vegpower of this family favourite.

Ingredients

Sauce

  • 100g margarine

  • 100g plain flour

  • 1 litre + 100ml milk

  • 200g grated cheddar cheese

  • Seasoning

Pasta

  • 250g dried pasta

Topping

  • 100g grated cheddar cheese

1. Cook and drain the macaroni pasta

2. Melt the margarine and stir in the flour well, over a low heat – without allowing to colour.

3. Gradually add and stir in the milk and cook until thick & smooth.

4. Add the cheese and cook until melted through.

5. Taste and season

6. Add the macaroni pasta to the sauce and mix well.

7. Put into serving tin and cover the top with grated cheese.

8. Cook through in the oven at 190 degrees (170 degrees for fan assisted ovens) until cheese has melted and the top is golden.
